ARE THERE SCENARIOS WHERE MY PET MAY NOT BE ABLE TO DO CERTAIN THERAPIES?

At Bridge City Veterinary Rehabilitation, we customize each treatment plan to your pet’s needs, and sometimes therapies like the underwater treadmill, PEMF, or laser therapy may not be suitable. The underwater treadmill may be avoided if your pet has open wounds, skin infections, severe heart or respiratory conditions, a significant fear of water that cannot be gradually managed, if they are a bitch in heat, experiencing vomiting +/- diarrhea, or if they are very dirty . PEMF therapy might not be used for pets with , pacemakers (if the owner has a pacemaker or insulin pump they will be required to be outside the treatment room for their safety), or if they are pregnant. Laser therapy is avoided in several specific cases, such as directly into the eye, over the abdomen of pregnant animals, over tumors, over the thyroid gland, on pediatric growth plates, or in pets who are photosensitive. Our veterinary team will always ensure your pet’s safety and discuss the most effective treatment options for their recovery and comfort.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT MY PET'S INITIAL REHAB ASSESSMENT

Your pet’s first rehabilitation visit typically takes about one hour and includes a comprehensive physical examination by our veterinarian.

Here’s what to expect:

* Getting to know your pet: We start with a conversation to learn more about your pet’s medical history, personality, and any current concerns you may have before beginning the hands-on assessment.
* Comfort is key: We understand that pets who may be feeling discomfort may feel more vulnerable, which can sometimes lead to reactivity. If you have any concerns about your pet’s behaviour or comfort, please let us know—we’ll do our best to make the visit as low-stress as possible.
* Before your appointment: Please send us any previous medical records and imaging ahead of time. This helps our veterinarian review your pet’s history and make the most of your appointment.
* Medications & supplements: Let us know if your pet is taking any pain medications or supplements.
* After the assessment: Because the initial exam can be tiring for your pet, normally any recommended therapies will be scheduled on a separate day. If you are travelling from a far distance let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.
* Follow-up plan: After your appointment, you’ll receive a detailed summary of the exam findings and if prescribed, a customized exercise plan. Please allow up to 72 hours to receive this.

We’re here to support you and your pet every step of the way!
