Cruciate Disease

Their Story

Lucy came to Bridge City Veterinary Rehabilitation after developing hind limb lameness. During her initial rehabilitation assessment, we determined that her lameness was consistent with cruciate ligament disease.

Before surgery, Lucy followed a personalized prehabilitation program designed to help maintain her strength, mobility, and muscle mass while protecting her injured knee. Her program included therapeutic exercises, Class IV laser therapy, and underwater treadmill hydrotherapy to keep her as comfortable and functional as possible leading up to surgery.

Following her cruciate repair, Lucy returned for a reassessment so we could tailor her rehabilitation program to her recovery. Her updated plan focused on restoring range of motion, rebuilding strength, improving balance and body awareness, and helping her regain the best possible function in her repaired stifle.

With a combination of appropriate pain management, guided therapeutic exercise, and supportive rehabilitation therapies, Lucy made excellent progress throughout her recovery.

Today, Lucy is back to being a happy, active dog and is enjoying everything summer has to offer—including spending time at the lake with her family. We're so proud of how far she's come and grateful to have been part of her recovery journey!
